General notes on submitting an abstract

Please click here to download a document containing full instructions (reproduced below), a template submission form and sample abstract.

Note: In preparing your submission please follow the instructions carefully. Acceptance of your abstract is conditional on your compliance with these instructions, and failure to follow these requirements may result in abstracts not being accepted and/or not being published.

A submission form must accompany each abstract and should be signed by the corresponding author. A template can be found on page 4 of this document and should be adhered to.

Please note that an abstract cannot be submitted to more than one AAGBI meeting at the same time. However, if it is submitted but not accepted for one AAGBI meeting it can then be submitted to another (as long as it has not been published elsewhere – see Declaration on page 3).

The closing date for abstract submission is midnight on Monday 28 May 2012. Any abstract received after this time will not be accepted. Each abstract should be submitted as a Word file, labelled as “AC-1st authorsurname-brief topic” (e.g. “AC-Smith-morphine”) and emailed to secretariat@aagbi.org. Please refer to page 4 of this document for the abstract template. A confirmation email will be sent on receipt (during office hours only). The signed submission form should either be sent by fax to +44 (0)20 7631 4352 or emailed as a scanned image to the same email address. After the deadline, a preliminary review of the abstracts received will determine which ones are to be accepted for presentation at Congress.

Authors of abstracts will be contacted via e-mail to tell them if their abstracts have been accepted. Some authors will be invited to present their work orally, and the remaining successful authors will be invited to present a poster. Oral presentations will be on Wednesday 19 (case reports), Thursday 20 (original research) and Friday 21 (audit and surveys) September. Six minutes will be allowed for the presentation, followed by a two minute period for questions.

Successful entrants in the Safety prize category will be invited to present a poster and the winner will be expected to make a five minute oral presentation at Annual Congress on Friday 21st September.

Posters should be up to A1 size (59.4cm x 84cm) and orientated in portrait (not landscape) view. Any posters not meeting the criteria will not be displayed. Presenters of posters will be sent further instructions nearer the meeting date. All presenters must pay for registration at the meeting; travel and accommodation will not be reimbursed by the Association of Anaesthetists.

Questions about free papers should be directed to secretariat@aagbi.org.
