Welcome to the AAGBI Annual Congress 2010

This year the annual congress moves to Harrogate from the 22 to the 24 of September.

The main meeting starts on the Wednesday and this year the majority of the programme is linked to the Royal College of Anaesthetists Revalidation Matrix. The meeting has three parallel streams of lectures combined with workshops and case presentations.

Our keynote addresses include Brain Sites, Dartmouth College Hanover New Hampshire, who will push the barriers of ultrasound in anaesthesia even further.  Professor Hugh Hemmings, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York,  will be speaking on Sodium Channels in Anaesthesia and we are honoured to have Prof Sir Martin Evans, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2007, give the 2010 John Snow lecture.

Professor Alan Maynard, a renowned health economist from York University will complement talks about obesity in children and adults.  In addition, we will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of The Battle of Britain, with a session dedicated to the RAF past and also what they are doing now to transport injured servicemen back from theatres of conflict.

For the first time there will be an FRCA workshop, aimed mainly at the Primary FRCA, run by examiners. Book in and pit your wits against the examiners and learn what the modern exam is like.

There will be a wide range of CME options for every delegate and hopefully there will be an inaugural 5 Km fun run on the Thursday morning of the congress, don’t forget to bring your running or walking kit!

I hope to see you all in Harrogate.
